Herbinot des Touches (Destouches)

The Herbinot family originated in Gournay - Loizé in Poitou, where they owned the seigneury of Les Touches.

Known by the surname Herbinot des Touches from the end of the 16th century, the family has produced several generations of talented musicians.

One of the most remarkable was undoubtedly Jean Herbinot des Touches - ‘Hautbois et Musettes du Poitou’ from 1629 to 1661, he was a Court Officer and wind instrument musician in the chamber of the King of France, Louis XIII.

It seems that he composed some of the pieces himself.

The learned ecclesiastic Mersenne said of Jean in 1636 that he played the musette to perfection.

The musette was a kind of small bagpipe, soft and elegant, highly prized at court.

His son Michel Herbinot des Touches (1639 - 1731) succeeded him in this position and moved to Saint Barthélémy, a village very close to Paris, probably in order to facilitate his visits to the sovereign at the Palais du Louvre and the Château de Fontainebleau.

He had two sons by his wife Anne Le Roux: Michel, who succeeded him in his duties, and Marin, who was introduced to the highest echelons of the State and, as an advisor to King Louis XIV, was appointed Treasurer and Receiver of the Rents of Paris City Hall.

In 1711, he married Marguerite de La Champagne, daughter of Nicolas de La Champagne and Marie Anne de Bonnière.

They had 3 children: Marin - Nicolas, Marguerite and Louis.

His son, Marin - Nicolas Herbinot des Touches, married Marie Menard des Rolandières in 1746 and succeeded his father-in-law as a lawyer at the Presidential Court of Le Mans (Court of Justice).

They had a son Marie Nicolas

His son Marie Nicolas Herbinot des Touches (1751 - 1835), Receiver of the Public finance department in Questembert, married Louise Beunet in 1782.

Ten years later, due to the regime of terror in revolutionary France, the name was changed to ‘Herbinot Destouches’.

They had an only daughter, Jeanne-Marie.

Jeanne Marie married Captain Tousch in 1809. They are the ancestors of today's Reumont de Poligny.
